Sixth Form Musical Theatre Course

An intensive two-year programme which provides students with the core training for a career in the performing arts.

Our Musical Theatre course at Tring Park School boasts illustrious alumni appearing in theatre, TV and film and secures degree course places for a high percentage of graduates.

Thorough core training, and the programme of performances, workshops and master classes reflect the multifaceted nature of professional musical theatre.

The curriculum is delivered by musical theatre practitioners with direct, recent or current experience and is supported by visiting artists from a variety of sources within professional musical theatre.

Course Summary

Throughout the course students are afforded a plethora of opportunities to develop their skills in all areas of musical theatre, create a thorough portfolio and gain experience and appropriate exposure through diverse performance platforms.

In singing classes students are encouraged to develop a strong and secure technique with emphasis on application through performance, repertoire and portfolio work, while in dance emphasis is on versatility, with core training in jazz, ballet and tap. Acting classes are based around both script and improvisation work with a strong focus on confidence, character and dialect.

Course Structure

Pupils will learn the three key elements of Musical Theatre with the discipline and commitment necessary to work within a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding career. They will also learn:

  • Professional performance skills and expressive communication skills enabling artistic interpretation of a variety of styles, directorial and choreographic demands.
  • The ability to work effectively with fellow performers and with professional directors and technical staff as well as knowledge of current trends in audition practice.
  • Pupils will gain the understanding of the focus required to sustain high levels of personal achievement.
  • The ability to evaluate a performance in an objective manner and the development of personal resources to deal with potentially stressful situations.
  • A musical awareness and sensitivity to a wide variety of music and vocal styles. Good contextual knowledge of the development of Musical Theatre and a thorough and varied portfolio.
  • A sound anatomical and physiological understanding of the physique and an appreciation of vocal health.

Fees & Funding

The School offers Scholarships for the Performance Foundation, Musical Theatre, Acting and Commercial Music Courses and Music & Dance Scheme and Dance & Drama Awards for Dancers.
