Summer Acting Course

Join us at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts for an exciting and intensive week on the Summer Acting Course!

This course is open to those aged 10 to 16.

During the week of the Summer Acting Course, you’ll immerse yourself in a range of dynamic and engaging workshops designed to develop your acting skills. Led by experienced professionals, these workshops will cover various aspects of performance and technique, including:

  • Improvisation: Learn to think quickly and adapt on your feet, enhancing your spontaneity and creativity.
  • Scene Study: Work on analysing and performing scenes, helping you to understand character dynamics and dramatic structure.
  • Character Development: Dive into the process of building a character, including their motivations, backstory, and emotional journey.
  • Screen Acting: Gain insights into the specifics of acting for film or television, including how to use the camera and adjust your performance for a screen audience.
  • Physical Theatre: Explore movement-based performance, using your body as the primary way to express emotions, tell stories, and bring characters to life.

Throughout the week, you’ll be given opportunities to experiment, receive feedback from your tutors, and collaborate with other participants in a supportive, fun, and creative environment. At the end of the week there will be an informal performance where you will be able to showcase the skills you’ve developed on the course.

FAQs

How do I book?

All bookings take place on our website. To ensure a smooth booking process, please fill out the forms and submit the payment to secure your place. Your place on the course is not confirmed until payment has been received.

Unfortunately, we cannot organise transport for pupils to and from Tring Park School. If you are looking to attend multiple Holiday Courses, we are unable to accommodate participants at the school between each course.

When does booking close?

Courses will close on the advertised closing date (usually 4 weeks before the start of each course).

When will I receive all the information for the course?

You’ll receive information four weeks before the course takes place. This includes details of required clothing, footwear, and items for those who are boarding such as bedding and toiletries.

Is food provided?

Yes – including a choice of hot food with a vegetarian and vegan option, puddings and fruit. We are happy to cater to all allergies and dietary requirements.

Boarders eat all meals in our dining hall and day pupils are provided with lunch and afternoon tea. Day pupils who wish to stay for dinner are permitted to do so if staying for evening activities (at no extra cost!). Notice of intention to stay for evening meals must be given one week before the course commences.

Can I pick who my child shares a dorm with?

Dormitory sharing requests may be made on application, however they are not guaranteed. This is due to legalities surrounding age groups and the configuration of ages and genders on the course. We do endeavour to accommodate as many requests as possible. Participants will be informed of their allocated dormitory on arrival.

What time do I drop my child off?

Boarders are required to arrive at 4pm on the first day of the course, with day pupils arriving the following morning. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate early arrivals.

Who will look after my child?

All pastoral staff are experienced within caring for young people and are appropriately trained. In addition, medical staff are available in the medical centre during class hours.

What group will my child be in?

Class groups are allocated via age and the information on the application form so please ensure that you are as accurate as possible when applying (include relevant experience, grades and exam boards where possible). Great care is taken to place each participant in the correct group for the course. All groups may be assessed on the first day and may be subject to change at the discretion of the Course Coordinator.

What time will performances end on the final day?
  • The Musical Theatre course presents a performance in the theatre, which is divided into groups. End times are usually between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
  • The Acting course runs a showing of work created throughout the week, with an expected end time of 3.30pm.
  • The Dance courses invite parents to watch a studio performance with a presentation of certificates. This usually takes place between 3.30pm and 4pm.
